While touring with Devo, Mark Mothersbaugh would illustrate postcards that he would send to family; soon postcards became larger artworks in gallery shows. For his music business, Mutato Muzika, he designed a logo, but instead of planting it outside, he opted to fashion it into the office welcome mat. After walking across it for nine years, he had an epiphany: to translate his favorite postcard drawings into rugs. The resulting collection, now numbering 88 designs, is partially based on those illustrations, which he describes as “a concerned social scientist’s attempt to make sense of chaos on planet Earth.”

Many have an edgy or quirkily cartoonish look, and sometimes a personal story. There’s Freaked Pig, based on his oldest pug dog freaking out over the addition of a new family pooch; Super Thing 3000 and Here to Go—Shout, which take their names from Devo songs; the AMT series revolves around airline turbulence and what appeared in Mothersbaugh’s line of sight while flying. Loro Piana | "One Step To Heavin" 100% Cashmere CarpetingPriced at $178 per square foot, the carpet–produced from the soft underbelly of the Hyrcus goat–is available in three standard earth tones, though it can be customized to match any color scheme. Loro Piana has opened a showroom in New York’s D&D Building to showcase their Interiors Collection, which comprises more than 30 luxury fabrics including vicuña, silk, angora and cashmere. The showroom is open to designers and private clients.

Fumetto Series Rug | "Crash"Our penchant for whimsy knows no bounds. No more evident than in some of the more inspiring spring rug collections like this creative, comic book cut-up from Stile BK. Based in Italy, rug designer Behrouz Kolahi borrowed from the Italian word for comic to create the “Fumetto” series. The rugs come in six duotone patterns in a style inspired by the art of Roy Lichtenstein and are sold in a limited edition of 50. Hand-woven in Nepal using knotted fleece on a cotton warp, and trimmed in a Tibetan-spun, hand knotted wool and aloe. The rugs can also be custom made in virtually any size and shape.

And check out these animal kingdom inspired rugs from Eelko Moorer. They are intended to lie on the floor orEelko Moorer | "Bearskin" hang on the wall and measure roughly  70 inches long by 61 inches wide. The six week labor intensive process starts with a clay sculpture from which a silicone mold is made. The urethane rugs come in almost any custom color, noting lighter colors will yellow from exposure to air and UV rays.
